Is the KIA EV9 ALL new for 2024?

Yes, the Kia EV9 is all-new for 2024. It introduces a completely new nameplate to Kia’s lineup and is part of their broader plan to expand their electric vehicle offerings with 11 new models by 2026. The EV9 offers both rear-wheel and all-wheel drive configurations.

Kia EV9 Trim levels

The Kia EV9 is offered in five trim levels:

  • Light RWD
  • Light Long Range RWD
  • Wind e-AWD
  • Land e-AWD
  • GT-Line e-AWD (as tested)

MSRP as tested $78,430.00 including destination charges.

What engine comes with the kia EV9?

Singe Motor and Dual Motor

The Kia EV9 is all-electric, so it doesn’t have a traditional engine. Instead, it offers multiple electric powertrain options. The base Light trim features a single rear-mounted motor with 215 horsepower, while the Light Long Range version uses a larger battery but produces 201 horsepower. All-wheel-drive models come with a dual-motor setup generating 379 horsepower, with an optional Boost mode for extra torque and quicker acceleration. My press car was equipped with the dual-motor AWD system.

For range there are a suit different options. The entry-level trims are equipped with a 76.1-kWh battery, delivering an EPA-estimated 230 miles. Models like the Long Range trims and e-AWD variants feature a larger 99.8-kWh battery pack, which achieves 304 miles per charge, while the Wind e-AWD and Land e-AWD trims offer up to 280 miles. Opting for the high-performance GT-line like the one I tested reduces the range slightly to an estimated 270 miles.

What are the interior features of the Kia EV9?

The Kia EV9’s interior is versatile and family-friendly, offering six- or seven-passenger configurations with second-row captain’s chairs or a bench seat. The captain’s chairs include heating, ventilation, and massage options. The third row can accommodate adults but may require second-row passengers to adjust for legroom. While the prototype’s firm front seats and synthetic upholstery felt underwhelming, U.S. models may improve. Overall, it’s a practical and comfortable SUV for families.

The Kia EV9’s interior features two 12.3-inch screens, one for the digital gauge cluster and the other for infotainment, with a slim HVAC display nestled between them. Physical controls are minimal, with just a few essential HVAC buttons and a volume knob, complemented by touch-sensitive dash controls for menu navigation. This model debuts Kia’s next-generation infotainment system, though details about its capabilities remain under wraps until the official launch of this three-row SUV.

How does the Kia EV9 GT-Line Drive?

I have two perspectives to answer this question:

As a fairly tall, family man, with three kids—two of whom use booster seats—the Kia EV9 GT-Line feels like it was designed with families like mine in mind. The interior is extremely spacious, making it easy to load up the kids and their gear without feeling cramped. The third row is actually usable for adults, which isn’t something you can say about many three-row SUVs. It’s comfortable, quiet, and stylish, ticking all the boxes for a family car that can handle daily errands and long road trips alike.

As a car enthusiast, the EV9 GT-Line balances comfort, good looks, and just the right amount of power for what it’s meant to be. It’s not a sports car, but it doesn’t need to be. The dual-motor AWD setup provides confident acceleration, and the Boost mode adds a touch of excitement when you want it.

Final thoughts

The Kia EV9 is a standout in the electric SUV market. Its bold styling, family-friendly design, and advanced features make it a top choice in its segment. Add in Kia’s reputation for safety, reliability, and competitive pricing, and it’s easy to see why this SUV is exciting.
