S2 E10: We go for a cruise in the 1967 Fiat 1500 Cabriolet Pininfarina. A car that we consider to be highly under appreciated, thus undervalued for today’s market compared to other cars in it’s category. However! There is one unknown fact about this car that we think makes it VERY special. The car was produced from 1963 – 1967, but Pininfarina was also designing the 257 GTS for Ferrari from 1964-1966. It was actually very common to use same design elements within the different manufactures, the 275 GTS was no exception because they used the same doors as the Fiat 1500!
How do we know this? Well a few month ago we had the owner of a prestigious Classiche certified restoration shop out of Maranello pay us a visit by The Barn Miami (@thebarnmiami). At the time they had a crashed 275 GTS with a side impact that needed new doors. He measured the doors up, down, and side to side and to all of our surprises they were identical!
Now, the door handles, door trim, mirror, triangular window and interior door panel are obviously different, but the actual door is the same. So it’s important to note that it’s not a Fiat with Ferrari doors, but rather a Ferrari with Fiat doors since the Fiat was in production before the Ferrari.
Our car is a very original, rust free example that we think is the perfect candidate for restoration or for someone that appreciates original cars and embracing the character the car has through it’s patina. The car is powered 1500 four cylinder single cam engine.
A true Italian classic of the 60’s!
