Yes, all-new look for 2021 marking the second generation for the GLA. This new model is more refined, sophisticated, and contemporary than its predecessor. It now joins the new styling found on the lineup for Mercedes-Benz SUVs.

The subcompact SUV appears to be a very strong segment for many manufactures. I wondered if there was an advantage to this over a sedan? Being my first subcompact, I was excited for it to be a Mercedes. Additionally, it doubles up as an entry-level luxury car. I can see the appeal and immediately understand the targeted demographic.

What are the interior features of the Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 4matic?
Very contemporary interior and the feel of luxury is present. Ergonomics are a big deal to me and this SUV had all functions just a finger click away. I love how the AUTO STOP function sits right below the Start button, genius!
My test vehicle was finished in Black MB-Tex with DINAMICA and red stitching, dash and doors are in Natural grain black Linden wood trim. The most entertaining function was all the ambient lighting options; 64 colors to choose from, door panel, dash, aircraft-inspired air vents, and footwells all light up. You can choose from keeping it one consistent color or alternating with different mood options.
The Panorama roof gives you a sense of greater space and of course more light in daylight hours. The dash is broken up into two 10.25″‘ screens but is one continuous panel. The “mouse pad” made all functions easy to navigate through the infotainment system.

How does the Mercedes-BEnz GLA 250 4MATIC SUV drive?
I have two perspectives to answer this question:
As a fairly tall, family man, Comfortable for 5 passengers and a cargo area of 50.5 cu-ft. It can manage the basics of school pickup and drop-offs, groceries, and easy to get in and out of the vehicle with the added height an SUV brings.
As a car enthusiast, Mercedes-Benz has great provenance of having some of the greatest sports cars we have ever seen, so a hint of that pedigree was certainly an expectation of mine. A 2L turbo engine with 221 Horsepower was a good start. The SUV is zippy! The low center of gravity and suspension with adjustable damping definitely met expectation for me as an enthusiast. Also, my tested vehicle had the AMG Line option, so it had the looks to match with the AMG body styling, perforated front discs, AMG Diamond-block Grille, and 20″ AMG Multi-Spoke Wheels.
Final thoughts
After a whole week with the GLA 250: Just over 400 miles of driving. It’s always a good feeling to be driving luxury. In my option, the GLA is a great urban car. It’s the best of both worlds between choosing a sedan or a full-size SUV. If I had to envision an end-user, it would be a 22-35-year-old professional living in a big metropolitan area. It’s entry-level, but still makes a statement.
