Is the Chevrolet Colorado all new for 2024?

No, the Chevrolet Colorado is not entirely new for 2024, but it does see an exciting addition to its lineup. Following the successful debut of its next-generation mid-size pickup last year, Chevy has introduced the highly-anticipated Colorado ZR2 Bison for 2024. This variant is an enhanced version of the off-road-focused ZR2, featuring significant upgrades for off-road enthusiasts. To accommodate these larger tires, Chevy has modified the wheel arches and widened the track of the ZR2 Bison. Other than these changes, the trims remain consistent with the previous year’s model.

Colorado Trim levels

The Chevrolet Colorado is offered in six trim levels:

  • WT
  • LT
  • Trial Boss
  • Z71
  • ZR2 (as tested)
  • ZR2 Bison

MSRP as tested $65,175.00 including destination charges.

The Bison is a more off-road intensive ZR2, with 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory Mud Terrain tires along with a wider wheel arches giving it a wider track.

What is the Chevrolet Colorado warranty?

  • 3-year/36,000-mile Bumper-to-Bumper Limited Warranty
  • 5-year /60,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty

What engine comes with the Chevrolet Colorado?

2.7L Inline-Four Cylinder Engine

A 2.7-liter inline-four engine comes standard across all trim levels. The engine’s output depends on the specific trim. The WT and LT models are equipped with a version that produces 237 horsepower, while the Z71, Trail Boss, and ZR2 models get a more powerful variant, delivering 310 horsepower. Every Colorado pairs this engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission

Towing and Payload Capacity

The Colorado boasting an impressive maximum towing capacity of 7700 pounds. However, the base engine, generating 237 horsepower and found in WT and LT trims, offers a slightly more modest towing capacity of 3500 pounds. Z71 and Trail Boss model allow you to pull the full 7700 pounds. For the ZR2 it is slightly reduced to 6000 pounds.

What are the interior features of the Chevrolet Colorado?

The new-generation Chevrolet Colorado has made notable strides in interior design. All models are now four-door crew cabs, ensuring ample space for passengers. The redesigned center console features a shifter moved closer to the passenger side, and the cupholders are now conveniently positioned in front of the center console. After the test drive, I immediately noticed the decreased headroom compared to the previous model year. This drop in headroom, approximately an inch, was quite apparent. However, legroom and shoulder space remain consistent with the previous generation, maintaining overall comfort. The model I tested, the ZR2 came with a 45-inch-wide lockable storage box integrated into the tailgate and is standard with this model, which adds a useful storage solution for off-road enthusiasts.

Every Colorado now includes a large 11.3-inch infotainment touchscreen as standard equipment, providing a modern and user-friendly interface. The vehicle also offers wireless phone-charging capability, while still retaining USB ports for devices that need them. For those seeking enhanced connectivity, the Colorado can be equipped with Google Built-In, available as a subscription service. Additionally, all models come standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, ensuring seamless integration with your smartphone for a connected driving experience

How does the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Drive?

I have two perspectives to answer this question:

As a fairly tall, family man, with three children, including two in a booster seat, the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 proves to be a somewhat practical choice. My model lacked a side bar for entry, which made it challenging for my children, including my oldest, to get into the truck. The four-door crew cab ensures there is enough space for the whole family. While the new model has slightly reduced headroom, it still provides sufficient legroom and shoulder space for both front and rear passengers.

As a car enthusiast, the Colorado ZR2 stands out as a versatile and exciting vehicle, especially my model that came in Nitro Yellow adding to its mystique. It seamlessly combines rugged capability with advanced technology, delivering a driving experience that is both thrilling and practical.

Final thoughts

It is a standout option for those who appreciate a blend of rugged capability and modern technology. Its powerful engine and advanced off-road features make it a top choice for enthusiasts seeking adventure and performance. The thoughtful design and technology integration ensure a driving experience that is both exciting and practical.
